Housebuilders face skills shortage

Small housebuilders say that they are being hampered by skills shortages and industry leaders warn that Brexit could make the problem worse.

Developers say that eventually the issue will overtake access to finance as a barrier to building houses, according the Federation of Master Builders.

The federation, the construction industry’s trade association, said that in its annual survey of 116 small and medium-sized housebuilders, 44%t said that a shortage of skilled workers was a “major barrier to their ability to build more new homes”.
