Britain’s housebuilders lobbied against plans to include electric car chargers in all new developments.
Barratt Developments, Berkeley Group and Taylor Wimpey were among the companies that argued against the policy in response to an official consultation.
The rules requiring all new homes to have a charger were announced by Boris Johnson in November last year, in a speech better remembered for his comments about Peppa Pig World.
The housebuilders argued that their responsibilities should end with the laying of “cable routes” into homes, which could then be used for charging points, saying this would avoid the installation of infrastructure that went unused.
