Housebuilders need to home in on repairing reputations

The nation’s biggest housebuilders have admitted that the industry needs to do more to repair its reputation amid accusations of poor standards and anger over soaring profits off the back of the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

Persimmon became the first in the sector to report annual profits of more than £1bn last week, days after ministers were said to be reviewing its participation in the scheme because of concerns of over build quality.

Its chairman Roger Devlin admitted its customer care “has not been good enough”.
