Alfred McAlpine turned in a disappointing performance in its UK housebuilding. This marred an otherwise strong recovery last year by the group. Oliver Whitehead, chief executive, said housing margins were inadequate.
Pre-tax profits were £9.4m as against a £23.5m loss last time. Housing profit fell from £11.5m to £9.1m excluding exceptionals.
