A report by the joint committee on the Palace of Westminster warns that the Houses of Parliament are at risk to being destroyed by fire or flood unless the government agrees a £4bn renovation of the site.
Work could start in 2023, and MPs would have to vacate the building for eight years, the report said.
The House of Commons would move to the Department of Health’s offices, while the Lords would move to the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre.
