The housing market is stalling, estate agents have warned, with slowdowns in inquiries from potential homebuyers, instructions to sell and agreed sales.
In a monthly poll of its members, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors found that activity was subdued in December. It also forecast that sales would be flat or would decline over the next three months.
The professional body that covers sectors including property and construction said that new instructions to sell, which have been falling over the past two years, remained in decline, with homeowners putting off moving unless it was absolutely necessary.
