Housing minister Christopher Pincher has called on the industry to provide ideas for low-carbon homes for an ageing population.
Applicants will be required to submit outline designs for net-carbon-zero homes that can be rolled out across the country.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will select three finalists to partner with developers on a site owned by Homes England.
Pincher said: “This competition will harness all that technology has to offer to bring in a housing revolution: new low-carbon homes that deliver low energy bills and independent living for older generations.”
The first phase of the competition will run until 15 April.
