Howdens plans to open 200 more depots

Howdens is planning to open 200 depots across the UK as annual profit rose by 50% on pre-pandemic figures.

The kitchen, joinery and hardware supplier has 808 depots across Britain and opened 30 new sites last year.

Chief executive Andrew Livingston said the business could reach 1,000 storehouses within the next few years.

In the Republic of Ireland, Howdens opened five depots last year and will have 10 in total by the end of this year. It plans to open 30 depots in France, where it already has 60 sites, by the end of 2024.

The London-based company reported a 10.8% rise in group revenue to £2.3bn in the year to December 24. Pretax profit was £405.8m, a 4% increase year-on-year, but up 55.7% compared with 2019.
