HS2 firm accused of cost cover up

HS2 Ltd has been accused of deliberately covering up its escalating costs to make sure politicians kept spending billions of public money on the project, according to a Sunday Times investigation.

Whistleblowers claim senior managers instructed staff to keep cost estimates artificially low and allege that for years parliament was not made aware of the true costs of the high-speed rail line.

HS2’s internal fraud unit is now investigating the allegations.

The company denies wrongdoing.
