HS2 makes senior Royal Docks hire for commercial role

HS2 has hired Mike Luddy from Royal Docks Management Authority as its new stations director.

He is taking on a new role which will bring together the commercial and operational teams. There are around 10 people in the new team, overseeing the commercial development of HS2’s stations: London Euston, Old Oak Common, Birmingham Curzon Street, Birmingham Interchange, and particularly St Pancras.

HS2 commercial director Tom Venner said: “Our new stations in London and Birmingham will be at the centre of the HS2 project, increasing capacity, improving journeys and helping to unlock opportunities for tens of thousands of new jobs and homes around four new landmark buildings.

“We also want the stations to be at the heart of their communities – places where people want to be, with high-quality retail and leisure use alongside unrivalled connectivity.”

Luddy worked for Royal Docks in East London for seven years, latterly as managing director.

Before joining the Royal Docks, he held a number of senior roles, including leading the £800m rebuilding of St Pancras as a retail destination and transport interchange ahead of the arrival of HS1 in 2007.

He also spent four years as chief commercial officer at London’s Gatwick Airport, leading the airport through the £1.2bn sale to Global Infrastructure Partners.
