HS2 unveils Euston revamp plans

Euston-Station-CGi

HS2 is to submit plans for the regeneration of Euston station to Parliament next week.

Eleven new high-speed platforms for HS2 will be built at the station in two stages to complement the 11 existing platforms as part of the wider redevelopment plan for the area.

It will also include new public space, shops, and leisure uses.

The station will become a hub of the high speed rail plan to link London with the Midlands and the North, with six platforms and a concourse to the West of the station built to support the London-Birmingham phase of HS2 opening in 2026.

Five further platforms and a concourse will then make up phase two to complement the opening of the London-Leeds-Manchester branch in 2033.

HS2 chief executive Simon Kirby said: “These firm proposals will allow Euston to fulfil its potential.

“It’s time for Euston to change. Not just if it is to fulfil its historic role as the gateway between London and much of the rest of the country, but also if it is to become a much bigger and fully accessible part of its own community.”
