HS2 will go to Leeds and could even arrive early, Grant Shapps has claimed.
The transport secretary scotched claims that mounting costs would prevent the full scheme from proceeding, stating that the only questions were over how best to integrate it with the Northern Powerhouse Rail project.
Shapps added that the 2040 or 2050 delivery deadline could be brought forward “quite dramatically” by “building it in a smarter way”.
