Huddersfield’s listed Britannia Buildings sold

One of Huddersfield’s architectural gems, the listed 30,000 sq ft Britannia Buildings, has been sold to Jack Lunn Developments for £2.15m by the Yorkshire Building Society.

The developer plans to create a mix of 24 high-end apartments on the upper floors and 14,000 sq ft of retail units at ground and basement level of the building in the town’s St George’s Square.

Knight Frank’s Leeds office advised Yorkshire Building Society and will be letting agents on the scheme. Jack Lunn represented itself during the purchase.

Philip Lunn, director of Jack Lunn Developments said: “We are extremely excited about the refurbishment of Britannia buildings, which provides us with the opportunity to create a landmark mixed-use scheme in the centre of Huddersfield.

“It is very rare to see a listed structure within private ownership maintained to such a high standard, and we now look now forward to transforming the inner areas into cutting-edge residential apartments and high-quality retail and leisure, which will complement the incredible external elevations.”
