Hungary vies for Rover plant

The new chairman of Rover Werner Samann said he was fighting for the survival of the Longbridge plant, in Birmingham. But a plant in Hungary could be a close contender.

A decision on whether new models will be built at the company’s Longbridge, Birmingham plant is not expected until later this month when the supervisory board of parent company BMW are due to meet. Survival will also depend on whether the government will grant aid to Longbridge.

Samann detailed six priorities to restore the embattled UK car company to profitability.
