Hutchison chooses Glasgow for Scottish HQ

Hutchison 3G UK is to locate its Scottish headquarters and customer care centre at 123 St Vincent Street (pictured) in Glasgow’s prime business area.

Hutchison, which holds the UK’s largest third-generation licence, has taken 72,000 sq ft (6,691 sq m) of offices over five floors on a 20-year lease.

Although rents were undisclosed for the deal, recent research by Jones Lang LaSalle revealed that a record rent of £23 per sq ft (£247 per sq ft) had been achieved by another tenant at 123 St Vincent Street, the former HQ of Scottish Mutual Assurance. Hutchison joins tenants Aberdeen Asset Management and the Bank of Scotland at the building.

Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G, said: “We are pleased to be making this investment in Scotland. Glasgow is a world-class city with a top-notch workforce. As Hutchison 3G develops, our presence in Glasgow will grow.”

The deal will create around 600 jobs over the next three years.

The Inward Operations division of Scottish Development International (formerly Locate in Scotland), in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, liased with Hutchison to secure the project for the city. GVA Grimley advised Hutchison, while DTZ Debenham Tie Leung and Insignia Richard Ellis represented landlord Abbey National Asset Managers.
