Warwick-based IM Properties has bought the former Birch Coppice colliery site in Tamworth – the second largest piece of development land in the West Midlands – from British Coal for a price thought to exceed £50m.
The 137 ha (339 acre) site – second only to Powergen’s Hams Hall – is on the A5 less than a mile from Junction 10 of the M42.
IM wants to develop the land, once reclaimed, for commercial and industrial use although a planning application has yet to be submitted. The company also wants to reuse the former colliery rail tracks as a rail head.
Phoenix Beard (Birmingham) acted for I M Properties while DTZ Debenham Thorpe advised British Coal.
