A 7,500 sq ft ice rink at the heart of Marble Arch, W1, has found an operator to make it a permanent winter fixture. Westminster city council, advised by Davis Coffer Lyons, has awarded a three-year licence to the Gilded Balloon, which already operates ice rinks in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, and George Square, Glasgow. The Gilded Balloon will launch Marble Arch on Ice on 1 December. Westminster has also obtained planning consent for a 3,000 sq ft restaurant at the 50,000 sq ft island site, which would operate throughout the year, but will not develop it for at least 12 months.
