Ichibuns opens in Chinatown

Ichibuns, a Japanese-inspired dining concept promising luxury fast food from the founders of Nobu and Ping Pong, has leased its debut site in London’s Chinatown.

The 3,900 sq ft,130-cover restaurant at Shaftesbury’s 22 Wardour Street, W1, is spread across three floors. It has been designed by Noriyoshi Muramatsu of Tokyo’s Studio Glitt. The theme is eclectic Tokyo rock-and-roll inspired by 50s and 60s Japanese subcultures and American diners.

In addition to table service, guests can order from a concrete takeaway counter and there is a bar area on the lower ground floor.

The news follows the announcement that Korean barbeque restaurant Olle has opened on Shaftesbury Avenue, W1.

Shaftesbury has recently completed Central Cross, a £15m development at the eastern gateway to Chinatown that will create a 48,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme providing new double-height restaurant and retail units. Units range from 400 sq ft to 4,300 sq ft.
