Imperial Chemical Industries is looking to sell the freehold of about half its 1,619ha (4,000 acres) at Billingham and Wilton on Teeside.
It follows last week’s announcement of the closure of its solid cyanide plant at Billingham.
The sale of the large tracts of land are likely to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds, reports the Financial Times.
