ICITIES has submitted plans for a 3,000-capacity sports and ice arena in TraffordCity, Manchester.
The proposals feature redevelopment of the three-acre former Soccer Dome site, situated next to the Chill Factore, Fives, iFLY and The Padel Club, all within the TraffordCity masterplan.
The land will be acquired from regeneration specialists Peel Waters, who are the master planners of TraffordCity and cleared the site in preparation of future leisure developments in mid-2023.
If approved, the purpose-built facility will include an ice rink, multi-use event space and food and beverage space. Once complete, with construction time estimated to be between 12-15 months, it will be partly let to Planet Ice, marking the brand’s 15th arena in the UK and the second in Manchester.
Heath Rhodes, chief operations manager of Planet Ice, said: “The demand for ice facilities in the North West is outgrowing supply. We are delighted to bring the second pad to TraffordCity providing access to a wider Manchester audience, with plenty of parking and neighbouring sports facilities.”
James Whittaker, managing director of Peel Waters, said: “Through this new arena, we will now be able to offer a wide range of ice-leisure activities for communities to enjoy taking part in or spectating, which in turn will also grow our visitor economy and bring in further investment into the area.”
