Plans for the £11m restoration of an art nouveau casino on the shores of the Black Sea have been given the green light after years of wrangling.
When it opened in 1910 Romania’s Constanta Casino was the luxurious hot-spot for Europe’s jet set. After a stint as a hospital during WW2 and a restaurant under the reign of Romania’s dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, it has been unused since 1990 and closed to the public since 2007 and is slowly crumbling into the sea.
Two state-owned bodies will work together to restore the iconic building over the next two years.
