ICSC: US retailers sidestep Europe to target Asia

US retailers are increasingly sidestepping Europe and targeting Asian markets, say experts.

Anthony Buono, executive managing director for the Americas at CB Richard Ellis, said that retailers were heading straight for China and other Asian countries as they saw greater potential for growth there than in Europe.

CBRE is advising fashion chain Ted Baker – which already has stores in Europe – on a move into China.
