IDRC: President reports back on NACORE merger

At the IDRC conference in Belfast, IDRC president Sean McCourt has outlined the latest progress in the merger of the IDRC and NACORE into a single body, CoreNet.

NACORE will be integrated into CoreNet on 1 January 2002, while the IDRC will not join the merged body 1 May. McCourt said that the IDRC and NACORE were considering have a joint stall at MIPIM.

“There are still local and regional decisions to be made,” said McCourt. “The IDRC has a more regional focus while NACORE is more chapter based. We have to find a way of accommodating both sets of members.”

However, conference members expressed concern that the organisation will be overly influenced by the US. McCourt admitted that there will only be one European, Klaus Armstrong, on the 13-strong CoreNet board.

He added: “CoreNet must attract occupiers on a global level but large occupiers tend to be weighted towards the US.”

McCourt warned that there will be some job losses when the two organisations merge due to “duplication of responsibilities.”

The first CoreNet congress will be held on 4 May next year in Salt Lake City, while the first European joint meeting will be later in 2002, in Lille.

NACORE chairman Matt Cullen will be CoreNet’s first chairman, while McCourt will be its chairman-elect.

The IDRC and NACORE each plans to pump $750,000 (£521,000) into CoreNet. No decision has yet been made on the location of CoreNet’s HQ building.
