IEA calls for stamp duty, other tax reform

The Institute of Economic Affairs is calling for the government to reform a range of taxes, among them stamp duty.

Significant reforms of land and property taxes, inheritance tax and capital gains taxes should be an explicit aim of any government wishing to promote simplicity and economic efficiency, it said.

A property-based tax at a percentage of the property’s value could replace council tax and stamp duty, the IEA said.
