Ikea has secured sites for four new stores in Greenwich, Reading, Exeter and Sheffield.
The additions will take Ikea’s UK portfolio total to 22 stores.
The Greenwich store will be a 35,521 sq ft at Greenwich Peninsula on the Bugsby’s Way site, SE10, which is occupied currently by Sainsbury’s and a former Comet store.
The Royal borough of Greenwich has made a recommendation to grant outline planning consent. Final plans for planning approval will be submitted as soon as the full design and details of the store have been completed.
Planning permission has already been passed for a 35,221 sq ft store at Pincents Lane Retail Park, Calcot, Reading and the site has been prepared for construction.
Exeter city council has made a recommendation to grant outline planning consent for a 30,139 sq ft store and up to 220 new homes on the land adjacent to the A379, Newcourt Way, Exeter.
The new store in Sheffield will be off Sheffield Road, next to the Meadowhall Retail Park. Sheffield city council has recommended approval for a 39,826 sq ft store.
The expansion announcement came after the firm reported a UK revenue rise of 11.3% following total annual UK sales of £1.4bn for the financial year ending 31 August.
