ilke launches modular homes training academy

Modular homes provider ilke Homes has launched the UK’s first modular housing academy.

The ilke Academy will train existing employees and 162 new recruits at its factory in Kharesborough, North Yorkshire.

The academy will teach students about engineering, plumbing, manufacturing, carpentry and design in modular homes.

ilke Homes has plans to expand their recruitment drive further, to offer apprenticeship and graduate schemes.

It is also working to set up networks in Yorkshire with local prisons to provide future work opportunities for prisoners.

Dave Sheridan, executive chairman of ilke Homes, said: “We have a responsibility to help people from all backgrounds find employment, and for too long the construction sector has sat on its hands while the skills shortage has hit crisis point. Creating local jobs and helping get more women and young people into the sector have to be priorities.

“Offsite manufacturing gives people a genuine, clear career path, together with the opportunity to play a part in disrupting UK housebuilding.”
