IM and Birmingham Council submit plans for 175 acres at Peddimore

IM Properties and Birmingham City Council have submitted a planning application for their joint industrial development at Peddimore in Sutton Coldfield.

The full scheme seeks to transform 175 acres into 484,375 sq ft of new manufacturing and logistics space and create a new junction on the A38. IM will develop the first phase of 91 acres and the remaining land will stay in the council’s ownership.

The hybrid application includes an outline application for an employment park with offices and infrastructure including a multi-purpose hub. There is also a full application for construction around the A38.

IM seeks to deliver significant road improvements, alongside a new roundabout and a pedestrian bridge over the A38 linking the site to the Langley urban extension.

The development will include a circular 4km pedestrian and cycle path around the site and integrated smart grid technology.

David Smith, planning director at IM Properties, said: “Transport was a key theme for many local people during the consultation and we recognise that managing access and highways connectivity for people and goods are vital ingredients for a successful employment park.

“In addition to shaping a comprehensive sustainable transport strategy that reduces the reliance on the private car, we are also proposing a large-scale highways improvement project to ensure that the local road network can accommodate future traffic flows.”

Birmingham City Council selected the developer as its preferred partner on the first phase of the Peddimore industrial scheme in March 2018. The site was released from the green belt and allocated to deliver employment space in the Birmingham Development Plan in 2017.

It is the second scheme IM Properties has worked on in collaboration with the council, having delivered the Wholesale Markets project at industrial scheme The Hub in the north of the city.

Planning consent is expected to be decided by spring 2019, with work to begin shortly after.
