Imminent arrival for Rapide

Cafe-Rouge-Birmingham-interior-300BCSC 2015 PODCAST: The Casual Dining Group has revealed more about its new “grab and go” concept, Rapide.

Speaking at BCSC 2015 in London, Phil Derbyshire, CDG’s property director, said the first of the new concepts would be launched in early November at its Cafe Rouge branch in London’s Euston Station.

That current Cafe Rouge unit would be closed, extended and refitted for the new brand, he said.

Derbyshire said the company would then be looking for new sites of  2,000 to 3,000 sq ft.

Derbyshire had previously outlined his plans for Rapide in Estates Gazette‘s September Retail & Leisure supplement.

“There will be two concepts,” said Derbyshire at BCSC. “A grab and go with A1, and a grab and go with A3. Three sites will open before the end of the year in London. There’s opportunities at transport hubs.” A national roll-out will eventually happen, he added.

Rapide will differ from the likes of Upper Crust because, said Derbyshire, his outlets would sell “authentic French food”.
