Battersea Power Station Development Company wants to switch around its phasing to bring forward the development of 200,000 sq ft of office space, following demand by occupiers in the area which want to be located near to Apple’s upcoming London headquarters at the power station.
The office space will take the place of 250 flats within a block towards the southern end of a section at the scheme, designed by Foster+Partners in phase 3b. The flats will be built in a later phase at a later date.
BPSDC is out on public consultation on the change, which follows the project’s success in attracting office tenants such as Apple and IWG’s members club brand No.18.
A BPSDC spokesperson said: “As part of the phased approach to delivering this project, we continually assess the best mix of uses for each phase to ensure we are complementing the wider local area.
“We believe that delivering much-needed, high-quality office space earlier than planned, alongside a great selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and the 1,600 new homes already being lived in or under construction, will bring further vibrancy to this exciting new neighbourhood.
“2020 will be a pivotal year for the project as we head towards opening the Power Station next year, along with the first part of our third phase, Electric Boulevard, during 2021.”
