Independent Insurance has chosen Amec Developments’ Cheadle Royal business park in south Manchester as the location for its new regional headquarters. The company will be relocating from offices in Sale.
Independent is to occupy a 10,036 sq m (105,000 sq ft) office scheme set in 2.33ha (5.75 acres) of the 27ha (67 acre) business park. Construction work on the HQ – which has been designed as two linked buildings – will start in September and should be completed by February 1998.
The new HQ will house 650 staff who will handle the north west region’s business in what the company claims will be paperless offices.
Independent – which has signed up for a plot at the entrance to the business park – will be the first business occupier at Cheadle Royal.
Most of the park’s £13.5m leisure complex is already operational. TGI Fridays restaurant, Brewers Fayre pub and Travel Inn have been open since Spring 1996. The final lesiure operator, David Lloyd Leisure, will open a Tennis & Fitness Centre in the park in January 1997.
Lambert Smith Hampton advised Independent Insurance while DTZ Debenham Thorpe represented Amec.
