SEGRO and Tritax Big Box REIT were among the top performers in GRESB’s real estate development rankings for 2020, as participation in the benchmark soared by 22% this year.
Lendlease, Credit Suisse, CBRE GI, UBS Asset Management and Australia’s Frasers Property were also part of the best-performing cohort by sector and region in development.
In the global rankings for standing investments, Hines, QuadReal, Legal & General Property and LGIM Real Assets were four of the highest performers.
Other firms that were awarded five-star GRESB ratings this year included British Land.
The ESG benchmarking group covered 1,229 portfolios this year, worth more than $4.8bn (£3.5bn). Data was reported at asset level for more than 96,000 properties in 64 countries.
GRESB said its participant growth represented “an industry responding decisively to the accelerating investor demand for comparable ESG data”.
The private sector led the growth trend, with participation growing by 32% to cover 953 non-listed portfolios. On the listed side, 271 REITs and property companies reported to GRESB, increasing by 13% on the previous year.
