Industry mourns London & Associated Properties chairman

Sir Michael Heller, chairman of London & Associated Properties, passed away on 30 January.

The board of LAP said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss.

Heller had been at the helm of LAP since he and his family acquired a significant stake in London & Associated Investment Trust in 1971. He became executive chairman in 1977.

Prior to Heller’s involvement, LAP invested in listed shares with a heavy weighting in mining companies.  After he became executive chairman, Heller changed the emphasis to real estate, specialising in shopping centres.

Heller was knighted in the 2013 New Years Honours list for philanthropy.
