Inflation data make rate rise less likely

Economists view an interest rate rise as less likely following inflation data that showed the annual increase in the consumer price index was unchanged in July at 2.6%.

The reading was lower than the 2.7% rise that economists had expected. The Bank of England’s target for inflation is 2%.

Inflation is now expected to reach a peak of 3% by the end of the year, falling back in 2018.
