ING Real Estate Development and Stanhope have released images of their proposed £500m mixed-use redevelopment of Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

The joint venture has submitted a planning application for up to 1.2m sq ft of commercial space, including 500,000 sq ft of retail and 130,000 sq ft earmarked for the town’s first department store.

The scheme, drawn up with planning consultants Cushman & Wakefield, also includes 1,050 homes and civic buildings including a housing centre and library.

Stevenage council and English Partnerships selected the JV as preferred developers for the town centre site in 2005.

The application, submitted last year, could be heard in the summer with the project scheduled to take between five and seven years to complete.
