Mitsubishi Estates’ 8 Finsbury Circus, EC2, the 169,500 sq ft office scheme developed by Stanhope, has been voted by the BCO’s “next generation” members as “London’s Most Innovative Fit Out”.
The WilkinsonEyre-designed building, which is 90% let after Swiss asset management firm GAM Holding took 42,300 sq ft earlier this month, was given the accolade at last night’s BCO’s NextGen Awards, supported by EG.
Estée Lauder Companies was also voted by young members to receive the NextGen Choice Award for most Innovative Workplace in the capital, for its headquarters at One Fitzroy Place, W1.
Meanwhile, the winner of the NextGen Workplace Competition, which required groups of BCO NextGen members to design a workplace suitable for the year 2035, went to the project group 88MPH (pictured right).
The group designed a building called “The Dynamo”, which was an adaptive reuse of an existing terrace of Victorian housing in London as the headquarters for a major energy company.
Also among last night’s winners were Cushman & Wakefield’s EMEA chief executive John Forrester, who won Mentor of the Year.
A raft of rising stars from across the UK were also recognised at the awards dinner at U+I’s Howick Place office, SW1.
The winners were:
- Rising Star of Scotland: Hazel Pearson, associate architect, Michael Laird Architects
- Rising Star of the Midlands: Steve Townsend, associate director, Associated Architects
- Rising Star of the North: Ian Walsh, associate, Cartwright Pickard
- Rising Star of the South West: Kel Ross, senior engineer, Arup
- Rising Star of London and South East: Christopher Christophi, associate, Perkins & Will London
The awards are part of the BCO’s NextGen programme, which aims to mentor and encourage the next generation of professionals to become future leaders in the property industry, as well as host a platform for new talent to share their ideas.
Cristiano Testi, chairman of the BCO Next Gen committee, said: “The NextGen award winners have worked on some of their region’s most impressive developments, and many of them have balanced their professional achievements with significant personal contributions to their regional BCO NextGen community.
Ken Shuttleworth, President of the BCO, said: “The BCO NextGen awards show how exciting the future of the commercial property industry is. It’s also wonderful to see young professionals share the leaders and buildings that inspire them most. Congratulations to all nominees, and especially to the winners.”
