Inspector approves Cardiff LDP

Man-with-plansCardiff’s local development plan has been approved by its planning inspector and it is now set to go before the council.

The plan provides for the construction of thousands of homes in the city over the next decade.

The plan allocated land for more than 41,000 homes between 2006 and 2026 – half of which have already been built or have received planning. However, a further 18,000 have yet to built and 13,000 of these are on greenfield sites.

Councillor Ramesh Patel, cabinet member for planning and sustainability, said: “We are one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities.

“The LDP will ensure that the authority has the power to manage the phased development of houses and new communities across the city. It will enable us to have affordable new homes constructed, sustainable homes, suitable for families and our growing population.

“Cardiff has been in dire need for this plan for some time. The previous plan was approved 19 years ago and has led to insufficient land being made available for urgent housing needs.”

The new plan is set to go before the council at the end of January.
