The Planning Inspectorate has announced that it will issue its report and recommendations for the determination of the planning inquiry into the £200m Gloucester Quays scheme on or before the 23rd June 2006.
The regeneration of the derelict Western waterfront area to the south of the docks has divided the city.
Some believe it will kickstart the city’s future, others are concerned it will weaken the existing centre.
Plans were first revealed by the developers, Peel Holdings and British Waterways, in 2002. Gloucester planners gave the go-ahead just over a year ago.
But the decision was called in by the Government Office for the SouthWest, which, after several months deliberation, decided to hold a public inquiry.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister called in the Gloucester Quays scheme over concerns about its location, its impact on traffic and public transport in the city, and whether the housing is needed.
