Inspired Villages has been given the green light to develop a 120-home retirement village in Horndean, east Hampshire.
The retirement villages operator and developer, which is backed with £500m of investment from Legal & General and NatWest Group Pension Fund, bought the site from Highwood Group in June this year.
The approved scheme will offer 120 flats and chalet-style bungalows, and sits next to a care home currently under construction by Barchester Healthcare. The scheme will also provide a village centre with facilities including a restaurant, bar, café, hair salon, multifunctional activity spaces, swimming pool, fitness studio and gym.
Development director Neal Dale said: “We have a rapidly ageing demographic in this country, with the number of over-65s set to reach 18m by 2040. This creates significant demand for age-appropriate housing so they can enjoy healthy, independent lives for as long as possible. Our approved scheme in Horndean will help us address this issue, supporting our country’s health and social care system, and create local jobs.”
Inspired Villages currently has seven operational retirement villages, with a further three in construction and another 15 contracted. It has set itself the goal of growing the portfolio to 34 villages across the UK.
Work on the Hordean site is expected to begin before the end of the year.
