Interserve cleans up for new HQ

Interserve-CGi-1

Interserve is to consolidate its Midlands offices into a single, 150,000 sq ft headquarters for the first time.

The support services and construction giant will shortly begin consulting with staff about a move to a site next to Birmingham International Airport, for which it has submitted Shepherd Robson-designed plans for a major new building.

The FTSE 250 company said it had received planning permission for the International House site on Bickenhill Lane, which forms a gateway into the Elmdon Trading Estate.

Its plans include demolishing the existing 83,000 sq ft International House to make way for a 145,000 sq ft HQ with 450 car parking spaces.

The move would mark a consolidation of various Interserve offices in the Midlands region, including its current HQ in West Bromwich and offices in Erdington, Aldridge, Dudley and Redditch, and allow for expansion.

Some 1,600 staff could be located at the new HQ, which would be ready in 2018. Interserve currently has around 1,150 staff at existing offices in the region.

The plans come at a time of strong growth for the company, which provides services to organisations including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, schools, hospitals and oil and gas firms.

Announcing its annual results last month, chief executive Adrian Ringrose described 2014 as a “landmark year”, which saw operating profit rise 35% to £117.2m. Its future workload increased by 26% to a record £8.1bn.

International House has been vacant since July 2013, when former tenant Leasedrive Velo relocated to Blythe Valley Park in Solihull.
