Blackstone’s boss has called on the prime minister for “consistency” in its business investment strategy.
Speaking on stage with Rishi Sunak at the government’s global investment summit at Hampton Court yesterday, Stephen Schwarzman said: “Something that people in the government may not be as sensitive to is that people like us need consistency. We need to be able to trust what’s going to be happening.”
The sentiment was echoed by Lendlease chief executive Tony Lombardo.
Schwarzman was one of 35 business leaders attending the conference who decided to meet with opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer and shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves for a breakfast meeting in the City before the government summit.
Senior Labour figures said they had organised the breakfast after “numerous” requests from companies attending the summit for their executives to also meet with Reeves and Starmer while in London.
