Ciaran Carvalho, a senior partner at law firm Nabarro, has been appointed as chairman of the trade body.
Jonathan Thompson, chairman of Argent, is to be the new vice chairman.
Carvalho will take on the role of chairman for the coming 12 months replacing Chris Ireland and said in a statement: “The role of the IPF has never been more important. In uncertain times, with some having postponed investment decisions ahead of the Brexit vote, it is vital that we continue to highlight the liquidity, transparency and opportunity inherent in the UK commercial real estate market. That opportunity is becoming more diverse. In 2015, investment in alternative sectors increased by 7% to account for 25% of the total and there was a move towards ‘real assets’. Both represent an interesting shift in the market.”
Thompson will assist in the role of enhancing the profile of the investment property market and especially the problems of potential conflicts of interest.
Previous advisory roles he has held include sitting on the board of the BPF and attending the Bank of England Property Forum.
