The Irish government and the country’s leading telcoms company Eircom have submitted joint plans for a 500m (£350m) mixed-use scheme in south Dublin.
The government’s property management arm, The Office of Public Works (OPW), and Eircom plan 650 flats and more than 500,000 sq ft (46,450 sq m) of offices.
The “Westgate” development will be located on a 9.88-acre (4ha) brownfield site in Kilmainham close to Heuston Station, the main national rail terminus.
Tom Parlon, minister of state at the Department of Finance, said that the development would include a provision for 20% affordable housing.
The move is the latest in a series of measures aimed at enhancing the government’s property portfolio, which it is streamlining.
Last month, the OPW announced the sale of its former maintenance depot at Ladd Lane, Dublin.
It is expected to consider selling the Westgate site if planning permission is granted.
