The Rebuilding Ireland plan unveiled by housing minister Simon Coveney will see the government invest an extra €2.2bn to address the housing crisis and homelessness.
In total the government will spend €5.35bn to ensure 47,000 social housing units are delivered by the end of 2021.
It is also planning a further 1,500 rapid-build social housing units, while the Housing Agency is looking to buy up 1,600 empty homes.
