A quarter of a million square feet of new office space on the northern edge of the City has been given the go-ahead by Islington council.
Land Securities’ plans for a £100m, 160,000-sq ft-net development opposite Ropemaker Court will get under way in spring next year, with 1990 pencilled in for completion.
The 1-acre site bounded by Milton Court, Moor Lane, Chiswell Street and Milton Street, EC1 — currently contains Burmah House and part of the former Britannic House North. The new building, seven glass-clad storeys designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, will include dealing spaces.
“We’re quite happy to build on spec,” says Land Securities’ managing director Peter Hunt. “We certainly haven’t got a prelet.” Richard Ellis are agents for the scheme.
Around the corner at 2-14 Bunhill Row, EC1, the Cooperative Insurance Society have been given permission to redevelop Gavrelle House for 91,570 sq ft of new offices on six storeys. At present, there are some 20,000 sq ft on the site, occupied by the Inland Revenue and other government departments.
The CIS is hoping to start work on the project towards the middle or end of next year.
