Islington gives go-ahead for City Road residential tower

A 36-storey residential tower at City Road Basin has been approved by Islington council.

US developer Pembroke, a wholly owned subsidiary of fund manager Fidelity Investments, will build the scheme at 261 City Road, N1.

The Squire & Partners scheme will provide 308 flats in the main glass tower and two eight-storey waterside blocks, with commercial uses at ground level.

The approved application is part of Islington’s masterplan for 5.5 acres of canalside land, which was adopted in May 2004.

Pembroke’s other London schemes for Fidelity include the recently completed 115,000 sq ft office development at 25 Cannon Street, EC4, and a proposed 750,000 sq ft office scheme at London’s Millharbour, Docklands.
