ITV will soon announce its long-anticipated move to Peel Holdings’ MediaCity in Salford Quays.
The broadcaster is expected to make a formal decision on the relocation from its central Manchester base on Quay Street to Salford after a board meeting in mid-November. Sources said that ITV and Peel have already reached an agreement in principle.
The move would see the broadcaster join the BBC, which will take 500,000 sq ft at the 200-acre MediaCity when it moves several key departments to the North West in 2010. It would also smooth ITV’s exit from Quay Street, where Coronation Street is filmed.
ITV property director Mark Stretton said: “Things are moving along but negotiations are ongoing. There are a number of issues to take into account, and they have to go to the board for rectification.”
ITV is in talks to sell the 24-acre Quay Street site to hotelier Surinder Arora, who bid around £100m in February.
Cushman & Wakefield is acting for Peel at MediaCity.
