ITV resumes talks over MediaCity move

Broadcaster ITV has resumed talks with the Peel Group about a possible move to its £600m MediaCityUK scheme at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

A move would entail ITV relocating from Quay Street in central Manchester, Granada’s headquarters since the 1950s, and would require the rebuilding of the famous Coronation Street set at the new location.

Previous talks between ITV and Peel are understood to have faltered in early 2009.

The broadcaster is understood to have previously lined up a site at Trafford Quays, across the Manchester Ship Canal from the BBC’s site.

Peel Media chairman Bryan Gray has been quoted in the national press explaining that talks are back on following ITV’s appointment of Archie Norman as chairman and John Cresswell as acting chief executive.

A spokesperson from ITV also confirmed that talks have resumed.
