Jack Wills to close six stores as ‘unhelpful’ landlords blamed
Jack Wills is closing six stores within the next month, blaming the involvement of “unhelpful” landlords.
The brand, bought out of administration by Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group (formerly Sports Direct International) in August, will close shops in Bournemouth, Camberley, Cheltenham, Soho, Truro and Witney in Oxfordshire.
A spokesperson said: “Since rescuing Jack Wills from administration last year, we have worked hard with landlords to try and keep as many stores as possible open.

A spokesperson said: “Since rescuing Jack Wills from administration last year, we have worked hard with landlords to try and keep as many stores as possible open.
“Our commitment to Jack Wills remains but, to ensure its future on the UK high street, we recognise the need to address running costs – including rents and business rates. Unfortunately, not all landlords involved have been as helpful as others.
“Where possible, we are committed to finding new roles within the group for all Jack Wills staff affected by today’s announcement.”
In August, shortly after buying the retailer, Sports Direct International announced the closure of eight Jack Wills stores, followed by news in September that a further five shops would close, including its units at Gatwick Airport and Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.
Sports Direct bought Jack Wills out of administration on 5 August for £12.8m. At the time, Jack Wills had 100 stores in the UK and Ireland.
CBRE is advising Frasers Group on all property matters relating to its Jack Wills purchase.
