James Wates will be officially inaugurated as president of the British Council for Offices at the group’s AGM this evening.
The Wates group deputy chairman replaces Gary Wingrove and becomes the first-ever contractor to take up the role.
He said: “As someone whose whole working life has been spent in construction, I would like to feel that I can bring a rounded sense of perspective to this superb constituency within the property sector.”
Great Portland Estates development director Neil Thompson will succeed Wates as senior vice president to the BCO. Collette O’Shea, head of development at Land Securities, will become junior-vice president, supported by the honorary treasurer, Robin Brodie-Cooper, who is also partner at Gleeds International Management and Construction Consultants.
