Japanese bakery continues UK expansion

Japanese owned specialist bakery franchise Beard Papa’s is to open more UK stores as part of its European expansion.

The cream puff specialist has secured three new shops, advised by Jones Lang LaSalle’s retail team, including a new 300 sq ft store at Bluewater which will open in June this year.

Contracts have also been exchanged for a 613 sq ft shop at Highcross, Leicester, on a 10 year lease, and a 335 sq ft shop on a 10 year lease, at the Bullring in Birmingham.

Both will open later this year.

Beard Papa’s said it intends to open a minimum of 25 stores across the UK over the next five years, and currently has several further sites under consideration.

The Japanese food bakery opened its first Europe store in November 2006 on the corner of Oxford Street and Berwick Street.

It has become the most profitable store within the group and fuelled its plans for expansion across London and the UK.

James Dolphin, head of leasing at JLL, said: “These latest acquisitions are part of an ambitious expansion programme being undertaken by Beard Papa’s. They are an international brand with over 300 stores worldwide and an appetite for more.”
